The Resources, Environment and Economics Center for Studies, Inc., or REECS, is a known organization specializing in environmental and resource economics. It is based in the Quezon City, Philippines. It caters to a broad range of clients composed of professionals who aim for the advancement of sustainable economic development.
REECS has provided knowledge on consultancy services and interdisciplinary research. It is also an expert in project planning and implementation. It is also into technical assistance and resource planning and management. The group has introduced environmental accounting of resource economics – a tool for improving the environment and natural resources conditions in the Philippines.
So why does this group really matter? Let’s check some of the main reasons:
It’s for the Environment
The underlying thrust of REECS is saving the environment. As it is very well known by now, man’s constant abuse on their resources has taken its toll on the land. Resources have been depleted, wildlife and fauna have perished. The REECS push on environment conservation has been reflected on its many projects – The Conservation Value of Endangered Species in the Philippines: A CVM Exercise, and The Development of National and Local Government Fisheries Registration and Licensing Framework for the Philippines are just some of the many activities that the REECS have conceptualized.
It’s for the People
By conserving the environment, the REECS have essentially saved the people. Livelihoods, such as fishing, have been retained with the REECS projects. Agrarian conservation have also dealt promising bounty, which of course is always a good thing for the farming sector. Also, the REECS involvement on pro-environment activities have also led to new avenues for employment. Animal conservation projects have given jobs to those working in that particular field. Wildlife caretakers have been given new and better responsibilities – not to mention, are rewarded for their efforts properly – to assure a better and brighter future for our animal friends.
It’s for the Country
Having a better environment resource plan will effectively lead to a country’s progress. With the potential better yield of plant produce, the possibility of export and feeding the masses can be considered. Saving and preserving the livelihoods of the common Filipino man can lead to strategies for an even better way of life. And by having a better environment to live in, the Philippines can shoulder on to a brighter tomorrow.
The REECS’ activities are for the benefit of everyone living in the Philippines. The environment would be saved, which would result to a better appreciation of the surroundings. The common man would eventually progress in life, having to retain and develop a better livelihood. And with these little bits of progress, the whole country can develop in to an even greater nation. By having these factors considered, we can be assured that a group such as the REECS is indeed a noble cause to vouch our support in.
